Faulty spray pattern

Clogged or damaged nozzle components may cause faulty spray patterns. In most of the cases, these contaminations can be easily removed – the comprehensive SATA guideline „Cleaning and Maintenance of Paint Spray Guns” demonstrates how: www.sata.com/firstaid. Below survey illustrates possible malfunctions your paint spray gun may show during daily operation – and what to do to remove these defects.

Spray pattern is not large enoughAir drillings and air passages are clogged

Clean the air cap with cleaning solution using a suitable cleaning brush; afterwards blow dry thoroughly


Angular or S-shaped spray fan

Horn air drillings are clogged

Thoroughly clean the air cap with suitable cleaning utensils; replace the nozzle set if necessary


Half-moon shaped spray fan

Horn drillings are contaminated on one side or front drillings are clogged
Clean the air cap with cleaning solution using a suitable cleaning brush; afterwards blow dry thoroughly

Lopsided spray fan

Fluid tip (fluid tip pin) and/or air cap damaged
Make sure that fluid tip and air cap are undamaged; replace nozzle set, if required

Splitting spray fan

The atomisation pressure is too high
Adjust the Inlet PressureThe inlet pressure on the spray gun should always be correctly adjusted. This is particularly easy with the DIGITAL technology of the SATAjet 5000 DIGITAL or with the retrofit SATA adam 2. It is also possible, however, to connect a standard air micrometer with manometer to the gun. Since pressure in combination with the supply of compressed air (air consumption) has a great influence on optimum results, you should always ensure to set the inlet pressure as recommended. You will find information on the correct pressure to be used in the paint application sheet of the paint manufacturers or on the web pages reserved for each individual SATA spray gun.X» in line with the requirements of the paint material being used
The material ViscosityMaterial viscosity is the time (in seconds) it takes the material to completely flow out of a standardized container. There are different measuring methods available. Please find the corresponding chart attached. X» is too low
